Show & Tell : Soaring with Silks

Show & Tell : Soaring with Silks
Our Show & Tell series is a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the Sakroots culture and the people who make it. Today, our Marketing & PR guru Andrea shares with us how she got hooked on aerial silks and what it means to her.

How did you first get into silks? I have always been obsessed with all things acrobat. I still remember my first Cirque du Soleil show, when it came to town on Randall‚Äôs Island, NY. Watching the aerialists swing through the air so gracefully made me want to be a part of that world. Ten Cirque shows later and I decided to take an aerial silks class.

What keeps you coming back? I take a weekly class with an instructor who I absolutely adore. I can hands down say it is one of the most challenging, rewarding things that I do for myself. Sometimes you just need an escape from the hustle of the daily grind and this is mine.

What makes silks so rewarding to you? There's no better feeling than finally mastering a move that you have been struggling with for awhile. Throughout the last few weeks, I've been working on inversions, and since I'm still fairly new to the craft, I was having a very difficult time and many frustrating classes where I felt I was just not getting it. Until finally, this past week, something just clicked and I got it! It was like all of a sudden, my body just knew what to do. It was quite possibly the most rewarding moment thus far.

Any advice for ladies looking to pursue their own craft? My advice in all of this is to believe in yourself. If you want something badly enough, work hard and don't give up. You will get it!
