Oceana, founded in 2001, is the largest international organization dedicated solely to ocean conservation and is focused on the importance of science in identifying problems and solutions. The organization campaigns to win policy victories that will increase the biodiversity and abundance of the oceans. Oceana has won over two hundred twenty-five important victories including protecting over 4.5 million square miles of ocean, protecting thousands of important ocean creatures, creating marine protected areas and putting in place science-based fisheries management in countries worldwide. By promoting responsible fishing practices, Oceana aims to protect the oceans and make wild fish more accessible to artisanal fisherman and hungry people around the world.

Oceana's solution to protecting and restoring the world’s oceans on a global scale includes:

Reduce the number of fish taken out of the water through overfishing.

Help stop harmful ocean pollution threatening marine wildlife and humans.

Increase fish supply needed to sustainably feed millions of hungry people.

Protect the habitats of vital marine wildlife being destroyed by fishing techniques.
